Massage involves the use of hands,
forearms or elbows to manipulate the superficial layers of the
muscles to improve mental and physical health. Remedial massage may be incorporated, this is used to target specific muscles which are causing pain. It uses trigger points and other techniques to bring these muscles out of spasm and to increase blood flow to these areas. Remedial massage techniques can be extremely uncomfortable but are very valuable as part of an integrated holistic treatment. Clients have described it to me as being a "good pain", and one said "it was quite painful but strangely, relaxing". |

| Massage
is a holistic therapy that aims to treat the whole
person rather than the symptom so before therapy starts the
therapist will ask you questions about your health and lifestyle.
The detailed questionnaires are structured to allow the therapist to
gain an understanding of your physical, mental and emotional state.
This enables the therapy to be structured according to your own personal needs and requirements. All information about you will be held confidentially. For a full body massage you will need to remove your clothing except for knickers or underpants but you will be covered by a towel at all times during the course of the therapy. Normally the first
session will take about 90 minutes including taking the medical
history and filling in all the necessary forms, later sessions will
be about 60 minutes although the appointment would normally be for a
little longer allow you to review your progress with your therapist. |
